2019 Outstanding ICT Student Awards

The School of Information Science in UK’s College of Communication and Information distributed its first-ever Outstanding ICT student awards to Mariah Thompson, senior, and Chelsea West, junior, at the college’s awards ceremony on Thursday, April 11 at 2 p.m. in the Gatton Student Center.

The school’s Outstanding ICT Awards are awarded to a junior and senior studying information communication technology who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and professionalism. In addition, the student selected demonstrates a passion for information communication technology studies, exemplifies commitment to the profession, and shows a positive attitude towards their peers and instructors.

This year’s recipients, Mariah and Chelsea, surpassed the criteria and demonstrate the outstanding qualities that school faculty look for in its student recipients. Congratulations to all the Dean's List and awards recipients!

Outstanding ICT Senior
Mariah Thompson

Mariah Thompson is from the small town of Albany, Kentucky. She is a senior majoring in Information Communication Technology and will graduate in May. Her favorite part of the ICT program is her internship opportunity with UK’s Facilities Information Services where she will continue her employment after graduation.

Outstanding ICT Junior
Chelsea West

Chelsea West is a junior in the Information Communication Technology program with a focus on the Technology Management track. She is originally from Louisa, Kentucky, though she has been a Lexingtonian for the last seven years. The University of Kentucky is where she says she re-discovered her passion for Information Technology, as her experiences in the ICT program have reinforced her commitment to the field. Ultimately, Chelsea is thankful for the program and feels that it is a community of dedicated faculty and students, noting that she felt welcomed into the program from the first class she ever took. She plans to graduate in December 2019 and aspires to begin her career in Systems Administration after graduation.
