Alumni Profile: David Nealis
David Nealis
David Nealis graduated from the University of Kentucky in December 2017 with his bachelor's degree in information communication technology. As a student, he completed an internship with UK's College of Arts & Sciences as a help desk technician in The Hive. Nealis currently works as a computer support specialist for the college where he provides desktop support to faculty and staff and technical support to teaching and research lab users.
"Since I graduated, my student job turned into temporary job to a full-time position and all of this started from the internship that I completed for ICT 596: Internship in ICT," Nealis said.
As a computer support specialist, his responsibilities include serving as the main contact for faculty and staff desktop support, covering hardware and software configuration and support in a complex dual platform technology environment, processing help requests, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, and managing computer inventory for multiple departments and buildings.
"I enjoy meeting people and helping them," Nealis said. "The job is steady and the work is consistent, but my work from day to day is never the same."
In the future, Nealis said that he wants to continue learning more diverse technologies. He said that throughout his time at UK he enjoyed all of the hands on technical courses.
"The class that comes to mind as most enjoyable of them is the Semantic Web course with Dr. Burns," Nealis said. "I enjoyed this course, because you could see how constructing a good page template made website building much better and how semantic meaning is changing how we use the data we have."
