Dr. Jeff Huber has announced his intent to step down from his administrative position as Director of the School of Information Science and return to his faculty appointment at the rank of professor effective June 30, 2023. We plan to launch a national search in Fall 2022 to identify a new director of the School. 

The School is one of four academic units in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky, offering undergraduate and master’s degrees and participating in the college-wide master’s program. Under Jeff’s leadership, the School has grown to include the Master of Science in Library Science, Master of Science in Information Communication Technology, Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Information Communication Technology (including an online degree completion track), and an undergraduate online certificate in Information Studies. 

Since Jeff began as director in Fall 2008, the number of majors served by the School’s academic programs has grown from 203 to 559 as of Fall 2021. The School also houses the Division of Instructional Communication and Research, which primarily offers courses in support of the UK Core Curriculum (Composition and Communication Learning Outcome) as well as a strategic business and communication course that satisfies the Graduate Composition and Communication Requirement for all undergraduate students enrolled in the Gatton College of Business and Economics. In this capacity, the School serves more than 2,000 first-year UK students and nearly 1,000 Gatton majors annually. With an operating budget of approximately $3.5 million, the School has about 35 full-time faculty members and six full-time staff members.

We anticipate a posting for the position to be available in September 2022.
