Fatima Espinoza Vasquez Awarded UK UNITE Grant Funding
The School of Information Science would like to congratulate Fatima Espinoza Vasquez on her recent award of $43,202 from the UK UNITE grant. This grant funding was awarded to her project “Co-Developing a Community Infrastructure with Lexington’s Latinx Community.” The project is phase 2 of work that was initially funded in 2020 from UK’s Igniting Research Collaborations program.
“We will employ a participatory research methodology emphasizing collaboration within the Latinx community to address the underlying causes of inequality while focusing on solutions to community concerns. We will conduct community dialogues and workshops to train community promoters. We will also test and co-design the digital platform prototype (petate.org), “Fatima said.
Fatima plans to continue this research with phase 3 that will seek funding to develop an alternative sociotechnical infrastructure within the Latinx community.
