Proferes Publishes New Study on Ethics in Social Computing Research

(August 23, 2017) Dr. Nicholas Proferes (Assistant Professor, Information Communication Technology) published a new study, "Ethics Regulation in Social Computing Research: Examining the Role of Institutional Review Boards" in the Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research Ethics. Along with Drs. Jessica Vitak and Katie Shilton, and Zahra Ashktorab, PhD student at the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies, Proferes discussed difficulties that Institutional Review Board (IRB) staff face when evaluating technical research proposals.
